Big Walk is built around playing with a known group across multiple sessions. Here’s how getting everyone together actually works.
The host holds the save
One player hosts the session and their machine stores the save file. That means:
- Progress is tied to the host. To continue your adventure, the same host generally needs to be present.
- When the host leaves, the session ends for everyone, so choose a reliable host.
Choosing a world size
At the start of a session the host selects a world version sized for the group:
- 2-player world
- 3-player world
- 4-or-more-player world
This number is the minimum expected group for that world. House House have said any number in the 2–12 range works well — fewer players makes for focused co-op, while approaching twelve becomes a joyful, chaotic crowd.
Inviting friends
Other players join in one of two ways:
- Platform friends list — invite directly if you’re friends on the same platform.
- Join code — share a code so friends on any system can hop in.
Crossplay across all platforms
Big Walk supports full crossplay between Steam (Windows and Mac), PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. A Steam player and a Switch 2 player can explore the same world together with no extra setup.
No matchmaking — and that’s the point
There is no random online matchmaking. The developers deliberately designed the game for groups who play together over time, rather than dropping in with strangers. If you’re looking for a group, bring your own friends or join a community Discord.
Saving and continuing
Progress auto-saves on the host’s machine, so you won’t lose your place. To pick up where you left off, reconnect with the same host.
